Viagra May be a Cure for Blindness

Viagra may be a cure for blindness according to a study done by American scientists. The study and trial done over two years by Columbia University students suggests that the drug may stop progression of blindness. It could even be a cure for blindness.

The trial showed that viagra may halt age-related macular degeneration. Dry AMD occurs when a growth of new blood vessels, a tiny oval shaped spot at back of eye that helps with clear detailed vision.

These blood vessels cause scar tissue¬† when they leak – destroying vision in centre of eye. People with this problem won’t be able to see faces, watch television or read a book.

Recent research shows that the condition is in some way due to reduced blood flow to the tissue layer in front of retina called – the choroid. The anti impotency pill is known to improve blood flow not only to male sexual organs, but to this tissue too!

Five geriatric patients with AMD were given two viagra pills daily for two years. The magical blue pill improved vision in one patient and stopped deterioration in the others

This study is conflicting since previously Viagra was known to cause vision loss in some men.

According to a study done by researchers from the school of Optometry and Vision Science at University of New South Wales and Auckland – the pill may affect those with retinitis pigmentosa.

The research was carried out on genetically engineered mice who carry a single copy of the retinitis pigmentosa mutation.

It apparently took two weeks for the mice ‘s visual response to normalise.

Researchers believe it could largely affect humans as 1 in 50 men carry the retinitis pigmentosa gene.

Retinitis pigmentosa is a genetic condition that is responsible for loss of light reception and outer fields of vision – leading to tunnel vision and blindness.
